K I N T S U G I  WORKSHOP

K I N T S U G I  WORKSHOP

Join Naomi Taplin from studio enti and nikau store to explore the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi and learn a modern spin to the ancient repair technique.

The philosophy of kintsugi sees the broken piece brought back to life with a new level of beauty, both aesthetically and through the trauma it has experienced. The application of gold (or silver) to the exposed vein of the mended piece creates a visual representation of a mended scar and each process – the make, the break and the mend – creates a story that adds to the value and beauty of the object.

Participants will practice an adapted method of this technique using modern glue and powders. There will be a selection of broken pieces to choose from to repair and keep or you can bring your own broken treasures to work on. All materials will be supplied and each participant will receive a small kit they can take home to continue their kintsugi adventures.
