King Living – The Room Project

I love collaborating with brands big and small King Living proudly design their beautiful, quality furniture here in Australia and I recently collaborated with them on The Room Project

I was asked to select and style a sofa in signature MJG style……. fun !   I selected the Jasper Sofa because I love it’s simple, classic and versatile shape.

I believe the sofa is the centre piece for the living room, if not the entire home.  The sofa sets the tone for your decor style and it is a piece that I always suggest you invest in.  A sofa should be well made, versatile, comfortable and you should love it !

Approaching a photographic shoot is no different to decorating a room, here is my step by step process:

Firstly, we selected the sofa for the project – this was the starting point for my room. I selected the Jasper in the aptly named Embrace Eucalyptus fabric with walnut timber shelves to compliment the Venus and Mars Coffee Tables.

Secondly we selected the occasional pieces and soft furnishings from the King Living collection – all cushions, lighting and furniture are from the King Living collection. Playing with textures, I chose cushions in contrasting earthy tones. By adding a tray to a large Bongo I created an interesting occasional table that can double up as a comfortable footstool.

Next I created a mood board of colours, textures and fabrics to get inspired and creative – my look was muted and natural and with a distinctly, relaxed Australian style.  My look is casual, lived in and quintessentially Australian.  The wall colour I chose is Murobond ash moonlight, a beautiful mid tone grey.

I then selected some other decor items unique to my style – a few prints from my favourite photographers, all with an ocean vibe, which was perfect for my look.  ( L-R Lauren Bamford, Aqua Bumps and Grace Cassio).   I also added some vessels from Dinosaur Designs and a beautiful, handmade throw from Little Dandelion.  Holly Hipwell provided the spectacular native flowers, which were perfectly on brief.

Lastly came the shoot day.  I styled it all up in the King Living studio for photographer Felix Forest to capture, showcasing the sofa in 2 configurations. The incredibly versatile Jasper sofa can be reconfigured in to many different positions – it’s many sofas in one !

I love the look we created, its calm, relaxed, casual and very me !  Job done ! You too can follow this process when selecting a sofa and styling your living space.
